Selena Gomez Opens Up About Her Journey to Motherhood: “That Was Something I Had to Grieve
Selena Gomez has candidly opened up about the deeply personal challenge of being unable to carry her own children. In a heartfelt interview for “Vanity Fair’s” October issue, the “Only Murders in the Building” star, 32, shared how her health conditions, including complications from lupus and bipolar disorder, make pregnancy unsafe for her. “I unfortunately can’t carry my own children,” she revealed, adding, “That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
Despite this, Gomez expressed hope for the future, explaining that surrogacy or adoption are “huge possibilities” for her. “I’m excited for what that journey will look like, but it’ll look a little different,” she shared, noting her gratitude for the opportunities that allow her to still fulfill her dream of becoming a mother. “At the end of the day, I don’t care. It’ll be mine. It’ll be my baby.”
Gomez, who has been open about her mental and physical health struggles in the past, also reflected on how taking medication for bipolar disorder affects her ability to have children. However, she remains optimistic, saying, “However I’m meant to have them, I will.”
In addition to discussing motherhood, Gomez touched on her relationship with music producer Benny Blanco, her boyfriend since 2023. She described him as a “complete light” in her life and someone who “grounds” her. Cooking together and spending time in the garden has become a special part of their relationship, bringing a sense of simplicity and joy to her life.
